Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo has formally written to President John Dramani Mahama, requesting copies of the petitions filed against her that seek her removal from office.
Her request follows the president’s receipt of three petitions, which he subsequently forwarded to the Council of State for advice, in line with constitutional requirements.
In her letter, Chief Justice Torkonoo emphasized the need for due process and requested access to the petitions to enable her to respond appropriately.
"I respectfully request His Excellency the President and the esteemed members of the Council of State to forward the petitions against me and grant me at least seven days after receiving them to submit my response. This response, in turn, can be considered as part of the materials for the consultation required under Article 146(6), before any potential establishment of a Committee of Inquiry under Article 146(7)," she stated in the letter.
