BLN Hosts Maiden Mentorship Session with Ghana’s Youngest Lawyer, Nana Danquah Adjei Domson

Accra, January 21, 2026, The Budding Lawyers Network (BLN), a professional mentorship platform dedicated to grooming disciplined, ethical, and responsible future lawyers, successfully hosted its maiden mentorship session on January 21, 2026. The session featured Lawyer Nana Danquah Adjei Domson, Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, widely recognized as Ghana’s youngest lawyer, as the Guest Speaker for January 2026.

The mentorship session was held under the thought-provoking theme “More Than a Student: Understanding the Calling and Responsibility of Studying Law.” The discussion focused on three key areas: what it truly means to study law, the mindset difference between law students and students of other disciplines, and the importance of early character formation.

Addressing participants, Lawyer Nana Danquah Adjei Domson emphasized that the call to study law goes beyond belonging to a faculty or department. According to him, studying law is a personal calling that demands discipline, self-motivation, and intentional growth. “No one will spoon-feed you,” he noted, adding that while many may be called to study law, only a few distinguish themselves through commitment and excellence.

Studying Law with Purpose

In his presentation, Lawyer Domson shared practical insights on how law students can navigate the rigours of legal education. He encouraged students to stop complaining about the difficulty of the course, stressing that law is meant to challenge the intellect and character. He advised students to cultivate a positive mindset, make affirmations about difficult courses, and approach their studies with depth rather than shortcuts.

He further urged students to read not merely to pass examinations, but to know, understand, and apply the law. “There are no shortcuts in law,” he cautioned, warning against superficial learning that leaves students unprepared after examinations.

Other key recommendations included forming serious study groups or study partnerships, actively engaging legal networks and senior colleagues, and building strong professional relationships with lecturers for mentorship and future references. He also highlighted the importance of mental health, emotional intelligence, and spiritual grounding, reminding students that law school will test their resilience and character.

“Drink deep or taste not,” he said, urging students to fully commit to the journey once they choose the path of law.

Responsibilities and Expectations of Law Students

Lawyer Domson outlined the responsibilities that come with studying law, identifying four key duties: duty to oneself, duty to family, duty to the legal profession, and duty to the public. He stressed the need for competence and strict adherence to professional ethics, as outlined in L.I. 2423, and encouraged students to see themselves as problem solvers who use their legal knowledge for societal benefit.

He further challenged students to engage the public through legal education, article writing, and community speaking engagements to promote awareness of rights and responsibilities.

On expectations for modern law students, he urged participants to broaden their knowledge beyond law, embrace technology as a non-negotiable skill, and develop uniquely human skills such as empathy in an era of increasing artificial intelligence. He warned of the future saturation of the legal profession, emphasizing that integrity remains a lawyer’s most valuable brand.
