Tensions reached a boiling point during a session of the Appointments Committee as members of the Minority and Majority Caucuses clashed over the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The disagreement began when the Minority proposed rescheduling the vetting to Friday, citing concerns about the day’s proceedings. The Majority, however, rejected this proposal, insisting that the vetting should proceed as planned.
The disagreement quickly escalated, with Minority members disrupting the session by breaking tables and microphones in an attempt to force a delay.
The Majority, however, remained resolute, maintaining that the committee was adhering to its established schedule and that the vetting should continue uninterrupted.
The heated standoff led to an increased security presence in the conference room as tensions continued to rise. The Minority insisted that no additional nominees should be vetted, arguing that an earlier agreement had limited the day’s vetting to four nominees before adjourning.
As the confrontation persisted, the committee’s work ground to a halt, with neither side willing to compromise.
