I’m sorry, I didn’t intend to disparage you – Barker-Vormawor to Appointments Committee

Prominent lawyer and activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has extended an apology to Parliament’s Appointments Committee, clarifying that his recent comments were not meant to undermine their work or dignity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Barker-Vormawor explained that his earlier remarks, which had sparked backlash, were taken out of context and misconstrued as an attack on the Committee’s integrity.

“I want to sincerely apologize if my words caused any offense. It was never my intention to disparage the Committee or its members. My commentary was aimed at fostering a robust national discourse, not creating discord,” he stated.

The lawyer’s comments had drawn criticism from several Members of Parliament, who described them as inappropriate and disrespectful. Barker-Vormawor, however, maintains that his intentions were purely constructive.

“I deeply respect the role of Parliament in our democracy and acknowledge the hard work of the Appointments Committee. If my statements came across as otherwise, I regret the misunderstanding,” he added.

Barker-Vormawor’s apology appears to be an attempt to ease tensions and reaffirm his commitment to constructive dialogue on governance and accountability.

The Appointments Committee, which is tasked with vetting nominees for ministerial and other key positions, remains a critical part of Ghana’s democratic process. Barker-Vormawor reiterated his support for their work and called for mutual respect in public discourse.

This episode highlights the importance of clear communication in national conversations, especially on sensitive matters of governance and accountability.
