Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has confirmed his readiness to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, to address allegations of bribery he made against its members.
The summons follows a social media post by Barker-Vormawor that sparked widespread public debate and cast doubts on the integrity of the parliamentary vetting process.
In a Facebook post responding to the invitation, Barker-Vormawor expressed his willingness to cooperate, stating: “This is how democracy improves. I look forward to appearing before the Appointments Committee tomorrow. Thank You.”
The activist had earlier alleged that some unnamed members of the committee engaged in corrupt practices, claims that emerged shortly before a vetting session and have since fueled public calls for transparency and accountability in the process.
Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, strongly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and damaging to the committee’s credibility.
In response, Mr. Ahiafor instructed the Clerk of the Committee to summon Barker-Vormawor to present evidence to substantiate his claims.
